About My Work - Artist Statement
Carrie Dorski’s artwork reflects a deep connection to the intricate patterns of daily life and the histories embedded in the materials she uses. Through a process that is both meditative and instinctual, she creates layered, tactile compositions that invite viewers to explore the intersection of texture, color, and narrative. Each piece is constructed from vintage textiles, ephemera, and found materials, which carry their own stories and imbue her work with a sense of nostalgia and continuity.
Her creations often capture fleeting moments of beauty and explore the interplay of contrasts—delicate yet structured, historical yet contemporary. The use of bold, vibrant floral patterns and intricate textures celebrates the richness of life and the stories woven into everyday materials. These works serve as a visual dialogue, blending the personal with the universal and encouraging viewers to find their own meanings within the layers.
By integrating elements of craft, design, and fine art, Carrie’s creations aim to honor the tactile, hands-on process of making while fostering a deeper appreciation for the textures and materials that often go unnoticed in everyday life. Her goal is to create art that resonates emotionally, offering a moment of pause and reflection in a fast-paced world.
